Vanity Fair confirmed on Friday that voice acting icon James Earl Jones would be retiring his voice for Darth Vader. Jones has been voicing the iconic villain for 45 years and deserves a long vacation as he is now 91 years old. According to Vanity Fair, the company Respeecher will be used to keep his iconic voice alive in future Star Wars projects if need be. Respeecher uses artificial intelligence to replicate Jones’s voice based on past projects and his help. Respeecher was actually credited in the recent “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series for the help of Vader’s voice. As Jones retires from arguably his most iconic role, it can’t help but feel bittersweet.

Jones will forever be recognized as our Sith lord and deserves a round of applause for what he did across movies, shows and even video games to make the character what he is today.
