James Gunn Teases Upcoming DCU Slate

1 minute, 35 seconds Read

Not too long ago James Gunn took to Twitter to tease his upcoming plans for his new DCU. He announced that his and Peter Safran’s DC slate are “ready to go” and they will be sharing more “at the beginning of the new year”. He went on to reveal that one of the first projects of this slate would be a film “focusing on an earlier part of Superman’s life” but not an origin story. However this means that Henry Cavill will no longer play Superman in this new DCU. Gunn announced that he has been writing the film for some time now but no director is attached yet. In other recent tweets and replies he confirmed that Batman would have a crucial part in this new universe. Despite a recent report by Variety that Wonder Woman would not be appearing in the first three years of the universe, this was debunked by Gunn saying, “only because it’s not true”. While there will be a focus on this new DCU, he also confirmed that there are active projects not set in the DCU in development. This could mean we get more seasons of “Peacemaker” which was mostly written and directed by James Gunn himself. When recently asked how many projects would be revealed of this slate, which is said to be 8-10 years long, Gunn replied “a few”. This means we will not get to see the entire slate that Safran and Gunn have cooked up but we will get some sort of beginning/direction to where it could lead similar to Phase 1 of the MCU. Anticipation is extremely high for the first set of projects that will be revealed during this month at an unknown date (as of now). We are excited to see what Gunn and Safran will do to help restore the reputation of DC and show us their vision going forward.
