The Batman Snubbed By The Oscars

1 minute, 32 seconds Read

On Tuesday morning the Academy Awards released their Oscar Nominations and as predicted “The Batman” was not given the recognition it deserves.

“The Batman” was nominated for three Oscars being “Best Makeup and Hairstyling”, “Best Sound”, and “Best Visual Effects”. The nomination for “Best Makeup and Hairstyling” was well deserved for the work and prosthetics done on Colin Farrell as The Penguin. It is very likely that it received the “Best Sound” nomination for the Batmobile scene alone. The nomination for “Best Visual Effects” is given to basically all comic book movies by the Academy in order to acknowledge them, however it is safe to say that “The Batman” will lose this award to “Avatar: The Way of Water”.

On the other hand, “The Batman” was not even nominated for some key awards that many fans feel it deserved. The three main awards that fans feel it should have been nominated for are “Best Picture”, “Best Cinematography” and “Best Original Score”. Now to say that it deserved to win these categories could be up for debate but it absolutely deserved to be nominated for these awards. Greig Fraser’s cinematography in the film was absolutely stunning and made the film a marvel to look at. Michael Giacchino’s score became an anthem for Batman fans and really captured the essence of both the film and the character perfectly. Because of how well the film was received and resonated with audiences, a “Best Picture” nomination would have given recognition to that success.

“The Batman” became one of the most well renowned comic book films if not just films of this current decade and gave audiences a much more grounded and detective noir Batman story that felt Oscar worthy. It is unfortunate to not see a film even be nominated for the major categories that it can easily compete with.
