Superman & Lois Season 3 Premiere Review

2 minutes, 57 seconds Read

Superman & Lois” has returned for its third season with a fantastic premiere episode that makes audiences remember why they fell in love with this show in the first place.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Story

This episode had many different plot threads going on but it is safe to say every single one was interesting.

The first main one was seeing Clark and Lois dealing with the possibility of being pregnant again. Their journey through the episode makes them both come to the conclusion that they want another child, however Lois finds out that she is not pregnant by the end of the episode and is called back to the doctor’s office. Clark and Lois have such amazing chemistry and really carry the show with their scenes.

We see Jordan and Jonathan are living their teenage lives and celebrating their 16th birthdays. Jordan is embracing his inner superhero and showing major proficiency with his abilities. He is also trying to respark his relationship with Sarah but failing so far. Jonathan is doing normal teenage things like practicing driving with Lois and eventually getting his driver’s license.

Sam Lane is trying to recruit Natalie to his DOD school but as per usual he comes off more as military than a grandfather and causes tension between him and John Henry.

Lana is very busy with her mayoral duties and also balancing getting a divorce from Kyle. Lana moves money so she can help fix the school, but is threatened by the former mayor. It is very obvious he was involved in shady business and owes money to someone which Lana has taken unknowingly. In an odd but interesting chain of events, Kyle and Chrissy hook up which was almost comedic to see.

Finally, we see Superman fight Atom-Man again who has now gained superpowers. During this fight, Atom-Man is killed and Superman sees the new season villain, Onomatopoeia. Onomatopoeia disappears with Atom-Man and it is revealed she is working with Bruno Mannheim (played by Chad L. Coleman). Bruno is responsible for killing this Earth’s John Henry Irons and is a part of the crime group, Intergang.

The Good

This premiere episode of “Superman & Lois” absolutely hooked my attention and made me so glad this show is back. It was a perfect balance of drama and superhero television, demonstrating it is miles better than any other current CW show. It was a feel good story that made you happy to see the Kent’s in their element but for once interested in the side character’s stories.

Notable Moments

Superman’s action sequence was so well done and gave us an amazing shot of him walking out of the fire.

Lois and Jonathan in the car was absolutely hilarious and definitely brought back some old memories of driving with my mom for the first time.

Speaking of Jonathan, the transition to the new actor was not a problem and did not affect the show’s flow at all.

Another great scene was seeing Clark picking out a pregnancy test and John Henry bumping into him. The awkwardness alone just made the scene memorable and extremely funny. There was virtually nothing wrong with this episode.

The Bad

While this episode was able to balance the large amount of storylines well, there is some hesitation if the rest of season will have that same level of grace with its characters.

Review

The “Superman & Lois” season three premiere sets up some amazing plot threads going forward and makes you happy to be back in Smallville. Episode one is 9/10.
