2 minutes, 6 seconds Read

Superman & Lois” continues its third season with an emotional and heartbreaking second episode that raises the show to another level.

SPOILERS AHEAD

Story

The core focus of this episode is seeing Lois coming out of the doctors office and finding out she has stage three breast cancer. She carries this secret with her throughout the whole episode and doesn’t reveal it to her family till the very end. Clark and Lois investigate how Atom-Man was released from prison, leading Clark to suit up and question Bruno Manheim in person. Jordan, Jonathan, Nat, and Sarah all go to a party and enjoy their high school life. Lana and John Henry look into the former mayor’s death and corruption but are attacked by Onomatopoeia. Manheim kills Atom-Man again and it is revealed that Onomatopoeia killed the original John Henry Irons.

The Good

This was easily one of the most impactful episodes of “Superman & Lois”.

Elizabeth Tulloch’s performance as Lois Lane was absolutely moving and demonstrates how in touch with the character she is. As soon as she officially said she had cancer, I found myself breaking down because of how invested I was in her story and performance. This was Lois’ episode and there is no debate about it.

Tyler Hoechlin’s visible emotion as Clark was mesmerizing. He truly captured what it might feel like to be a husband who finds out his wife has cancer. Tyler’s ease of compassion in this story further solidifies him as the most supportive and kind version of Clark Kent.

One more standout in the episode was Chad L. Coleman’s portrayal as Bruno Manheim. His dialogue with Superman was so well done. You almost feel empathy for his character but still recognize that he is a threat. Just from his one scene standing tall in the same room as Superman, he is already shaping up to be the best villain on “Superman & Lois”.

One other really cool thing to come out of this episode was the use of Onomatopoeia’s abilities. Her powers looked so cool and definitely came off menacing.

The Bad

There was virtually nothing wrong with this episode, however somehow it felt like it slowed down too much sometimes. This was more from the want to see Lois’ story but that just shows how important that buildup was.

Review

The second episode of “Superman & Lois” has taken our characters for an emotional loop this season and delivers fantastic and impactful performances all around. Episode two is 8/10
