Story
Very popular comic book character, Booster Gold, is set to receive his own TV series. James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed the upcoming series at their press event and announcement video and had a few things to say about it. Safran described him as,
“A loser from the future who uses his basic future technology to come back to today to pretend to be a superhero.”
Peter Safran
Gunn then added,
“I think of it as basically the story of a superhero’s imposter syndrome. How do you deal with that? (It’s about) how he tries to use this future technology to be loved by the people of today and what is really at the base of that. It’s a character story that’s going to be a very different type of show, and we’re talking to an actor about it now.”
James Gunn
The description of the series sounds identical to its comic counterpart. The series is set to be the new DCU’s introduction into the comedy genre.
Casting
While Gunn stated that they are currently discussing with an actor about the role, we wanted to give our top fancast for the character of Booster Gold. Our pick is Top Gun: Maverick’s Glen Powell. Powell did a phenomenal job as Hangman in film and was able to convey that cocky and charismatic nature that Booster Gold has as well as looking the part. The actor has even expressed interest in playing the character recently.
Expectations
Comic fans know that Booster Gold teams up with Blue Beetle often. Given the new feature film, “Blue Beetle” is set to hit theaters soon, it is possible either Jaime Reyes or Ted Cord could cameo in the series. It is great to see Gunn and Safran bringing attention to more obscure characters like Booster Gold.
