On Saturday September 10th, D23 hosted their Marvel panel and released the trailer for “Secret Invasion”. The series sees the return of Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Ben Mendelsohn as Talos. It was revealed that Maria Hill, Rhodey, and Everett Ross will all be appearing in the series. Newcomers to the MCU that were revealed in the trailer are Emilia Clarke, Olivia Coleman, and Kingsley Ben-Adir in unknown roles. The trailer looked fantastic and gave off the dark, gritty, and espionage feel of the MCU similar to the feel of “Captain America: The Winter Soldier”. We see that Nick Fury finally returns to Earth after being offworld since “Spider-Man: Far From Home” and has been avoiding Maria Hill. Interestingly, he has grown a full beard and is no longer using an eye-patch until the end of the trailer where he is fully in his iconic Nick Fury look. Fury is meeting up with Rhodey to discuss the safety/trust of his security detail as they could be skrulls. Talos appears to be squaring off against another group of skrulls played by Kingsley Ben-Adir. The series looks very dark and a conspiracy theory type story which is something the MCU needs to mix up its line up. “Secret Invasion” will be streaming on Disney Plus in 2023.
