The time has finally come! “The Flash” film has been in development for nearly a decade now and DC finally gave fans a major look at the film and what to expect. Since the legal drama with star, Ezra Miller, there was a lot of question whether this film would still release however DC has decided to silence those rumors and release two trailers and multiple posters for the film.
Teaser Poster
On Friday, February 10th, DC began to tease imminent news about the film. They released the first teaser poster showing Barry Allen fully suited up as the Flash in the Batcave. This was a very simple poster but its simplicity is what makes it look so good.
The Big Game
Then prior to kickoff of Super Bowl LVII, DC released the first official trailer for “The Flash” online. Later during the Super Bowl, they released a Big Game Spot that showed some extra footage not shown in the original trailer released online. Both these trailers were incredible and raised fan anticipation for this film tremendously.
Character Posters
The following day, other marketing started to begin for the film. First DC released three character posters for the Flash, Batman and Supergirl.
Official Trailer
The official trailer gave an astounding look at the film that blew away expectations.
Flashpoint
We see that Barry has run back in time to save his mother from her death causing a Flashpoint. In this Flashpoint timeline a lot has happened. Ben Affleck’s Batman is now replaced by Michael Keaton. Metahumans no longer exist and Michael Shannon as General Zod returns because of this. Instead of seeing a skinnier captive Superman like in the Flashpoint comic storyline, Kara/Supergirl takes his place.
Two Barry Allen’s
One of the most important changes is that instead of replacing himself in this new timeline, two Barry’s exist. The original Barry now has yellow lightning with his new suit while the new Barry will just acquire his powers and have blue lightning sporting an old Batsuit. An interesting thing to note about this new Barry, is that he wears a lot of yellow in his street wear. This could be a nod to the Reverse Flash who is infamous for killing Barry’s mother and being the main antagonist in the Flashpoint story.
Batman
Ben Affleck returns in this film wearing a blue and gray Batsuit and riding his Batcycle. His version of Bruce Wayne advises Barry not to change the timeline however Barry clearly does not listen to him. We see Michael Keaton kicking more ass as Batman in this new film than in his original two appearances in “Batman” (1989) and “Batman Returns”. Keaton’s Batman has one action scene in the trailer which felt like a definite homage to the Batman: Arkham video game franchise.
Highlights
We get a quick glimpse of Barry using his new Flash ring before it releases his new suit and it looks so cool. One of the most exciting sequences of the trailer was seeing both Barry’s fighting Kryptonian soldiers in a blast of both blue and yellow lightning as well as seeing Kara getting ready to square off against General Zod. Kara had a great sequence of helping both Barry and Keaton’s Bruce during her escape and definitely killing some Russian soldiers. The visual effects also looked absolutely amazing for a very VFX heavy movie.

Big Game Spot
In the Big Game Spot, there were some new and extended shots not seen in the trailer.
- Some of these scenes were Barry’s lenses coming down as he is ready to race off as well as him looking up in shock at something in Flashtime.
- We get a glimpse of a long haired Keaton opening a hidden wall and seeing a lot of batsuits.
- There is also a quick clip of Kara angrily screaming “What did you do?” to an unknown figure.
- Finally we got a full look at Michael Keaton’s restored Batmobile as younger Barry pulls off its cover.

Thoughts
DC did not pull back any punches with this film and fans are clearly in for a treat. These new looks indicate why the film was not scrapped despite Ezra Miller’s current reputation. Director, Andy Muschietti, looks to have done a fantastic job of adapting this storyline and bringing more eyes to the character of the Flash. I cannot wait to see this film and see how it leads into the new DCU. “The Flash” is set to hit theaters June 16th, 2023.
