Green Lantern Series Being Reworked

1 minute, 37 seconds Read

After months and months of waiting, The Hollywood Reporter has given us a major update about the upcoming HBO Max series.

The Greg Berlanti produced show has been in development since 2019, but has had trouble getting boots off the ground for some time now. Momentum started building when they announced that Finn Wittrock would be playing Green Lantern Guy Gardner and Jeremy Irvine would play Green Lantern Alan Scott however, news would come to a direct halt after these announcements due to the studio change ups with Warner Brothers merging with Discovery.

Due to all the major budget cuts and efforts to save money by WBD, the show has had trouble starting production and writer Seth Grahame-Smith has left the project even after finishing full scripts. Both Wittrock and Irvine are no longer attached to the series as now it is set to be solely focused on John Stewart Green Lantern.

For years the character of John Stewart has been “off-limits” for both Zach Snyder and the “Arrowverse” with the previous higher ups of DC saying they had plans with him. Those plans never actually manifested but that didn’t stop Snyder nor the writers of “Arrow” and “The Flash” from including their own versions of John Stewart in their interpretations. Snyder’s version was played by Wayne T. Carr in a deleted sequence of the Snyder Cut but a few images were released showing what he would have looked like. David Ramsey played John Diggle on “Arrow” but it was revealed that his stepfather’s last name was Stewart as a nod to the fans. There was even a little storyline over the multiple shows of the “Arrowverse” that teased Diggle becoming a Green Lantern but eventually he rejected the idea.

If this new rework will include Carr’s version or Ramsey’s version or a whole new actor is still uncertain but we are eager to see John Stewart get the spotlight finally.
