James Gunn took to social media to officially confirm he is going to direct “Superman: Legacy”.

Not too long ago, James Gunn confirmed that he was writing the script for the upcoming film but no director was officially set. Co-CEO Peter Safran expressed multiple times privately and publicly that he wanted Gunn to direct the film. Both fans and Safran’s wishes have come true as Gunn has announced he is set to direct “Superman: Legacy”.

Over social media he said the following,

“Yes, I’m directing Superman: Legacy to be released on July 11, 2025…Then a bit less than a year ago I saw a way in, in many ways centering around Superman’s heritage – how both his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his Kansas farmer parents inform who he is and the choices he makes…But, the long and the short of it is, I love this script, and I’m incredibly excited as we begin this journey. #UpUpandAway

Considering Gunn is the orchestrator of this new age of the DCU, it is more than fitting that he directs the most important entry of it. I cannot wait to see what Gunn will do with this film and he has all my trust. “Superman: Legacy” is set to hit theaters July 11th 2025.
