“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” premiered its first episode this Thursday, August 18th, 2022 and the pilot was quite a pleasant surprise. Tatiana Maslany as Jennifer Walters was terrific and felt natural in the role. Her comedic timing was on point and her fourth wall breaking felt like it was ripped straight out of the comics. She is more than capable of leading the series and the pilot really demonstrates her talent. Also accompanied by Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Ruffalo and Maslany’s chemistry bounced right off one another and made me love their goofy familial relationship and want more. While the episode brings back the feeling of wanting the old uncontrollable Hulk from phase one and two of the MCU, using Smart Hulk serves the story and allows character growth for Bruce as he’s teaching Jennifer how to deal with this alternate lifestyle they’ve both been cursed with. The VFX looked much better than in the initial trailers for the series. While the pilot was enjoyable and set the stage for She-Hulk, it still had some cringey moments that didn’t land as well as intended. It is clear that pilot was more meant to be just an origin story so the rest of the series can be focused on the intended half hour legal comedy tone. A great first episode which has me excited for the next.
“She-Hulk: Attorney at Law” episode one is an 8/10.
