Variety revealed this morning that a new live action series about Spider-Man Noir is in development. The character of Spider-Man Noir has gained a spike in popularity since his appearance in the recent, “Spider-Man: Into the Spiderverse” so it is no surprise Sony would want to capitalize on this. Variety gave a minor description of the project saying the following,
“The untitled series will follow an older, grizzled superhero in 1930s New York City. An individual with knowledge of the project says that the show will be set in its own universe and the main character will not be Peter Parker.”

Development
It was also revealed that the writer of titles such as “22 Jump Street” and “Mortal Kombat”, Oren Uziel, is writing the series. The series is in development with Amazon Prime Video and the second Sony/Marvel series on the way. The first was a previously announced series based on another spider character, Silk. “Silk: Spider Society” will be the first of these Amazon/Sony/Marvel shows to release and it is likely that the untitled Spider-Man Noir series will follow it.
Thoughts
While the concept of a Spider-Man Noir series sounds intriguing and could turn out good, choices such as not making the person under the mask Peter Parker deducts the whole idea of the multiversal character. Sony discounting the whole point of the same character existing in different timelines and universes, further proves the point that they have little direction nor idea on how to properly manage their IP and serve the fans a proper adaptation.
