Deadline recently confirmed that the currently airing third season of “Stargirl” will be its last.
Given all the changes that are currently brewing since the Warner Brothers Discovery merger and the possible sale of the CW Network, many of the DCTV CW shows have been slowly canceled one by one. “Stargirl” was originally a DC Universe (streaming service) original but later moved to the CW for its second season. Now its third and final season will end with the CW.
This is unfortunate as “Stargirl” was easily one of the best currently airing DC shows that balanced campiness and dark tones similar to the earlier seasons of “The Flash”. Apparently the writers of the show were told before filming that this could be their last season and to treat it as such. Brec Bassinger took to social media to acknowledge the ending of her series and confirmed that they shot two different endings for the season in the case that it was the end. With “The Flash” airing its final season and “Stargirl” being canceled, this begs the question if the popular series “Superman and Lois” will suffer the same fate of cancelation or move to HBO Max as it is partly produced by HBO.
Either way, it is sad to see the ending of the series and it will easily be looked backed upon as as a successful superhero show that followed in the steps of its DCTV predecessors.
