“Stargirl” premiered the first episode of its third season recently and brings us back into the JSA loving Earth-2. The episode was more of a reintroduction to the characters and reminding the audience of where the story left off last season. Each character had their own little highlight during the episode and it reminds you of how big the cast has grown. We get to see the return of fan favorite, The Gambler, in order to set up the main plot thread for the season and the mistrust yet to come. The main JSA members have been set up to deal with their own issues, such as Courtney learning to share the staff with Starman, Rick trying to resurrect Grundy, Beth now having overbearing parents, and Yolanda not trusting Cindy, however they all unite in the end for the main punch of the episode: the murder. Without giving anything away, it is being framed as the most obvious choice for the convicted, but it is clear to just be a fakeout/setup for that character to stir up drama. While the episode was mainly focused on the JSA, the best and most comedic story beats came from the Crocks. Sportsmaster, Tigress, and Artemis are fan favorites from “Young Justice” and although their portrayals are slightly different, they give the best scenes that will guarantee a laugh and also make you a little afraid of them as well. Artemis is finally being set up as becoming a JSA member which is exciting but the overall story questions if she can really be trusted because of her blood relations. While the episode had nothing really important until the very end, it was an average good time that makes you hope that the story will pick up in the following episodes.
Episode one is 6/10.
