Titans and Doom Patrol Canceled

Two more DC television shows have bit the dust. On Thursday, Deadline announced that the currently airing fourth seasons of both “Titans” and “Doom Patrol” would be their last.

The two series both began on the now disbanded streaming service, DC Universe. They both ran for two seasons on the platform and then moved to HBO Max for their final two seasons. Both shows did considerably well and were major draws for both streaming platforms.

There had been rumors for a few months now, that these series would be canceled when David Zaslav first took over Warner Brothers Discovery and later when James Gunn and Peter Safran were appointed heads of DC Studios.

James Gunn commented on the cancellations over Twitter saying, “The decision to end the series precedes us. But I certainly wish the best for the talented group of creators, actors, and the rest of the crew that produced both shows.” As Gunn mentioned, the decision to end both of the series came before him and Safran meaning that it likely came from Zaslav or HBO Max higher ups.

When asked if he could ever bring back those characters from both shows he responded. “What characters/performers playing those characters we keep in the DCU would be my and Peter’s call. But that doesn’t mean we can keep any TV show running indefinitely.” However, it is unlikely that they would bring back these characters as they are currently trying to reboot the DCU.

Although it is unfortunate to see these shows canceled especially at their peak, it is good to see they both ended on a high note and brought iconic characters and stories to live action.
